Quietly Making..

We have been busy making prototype components for our upcoming January exhibition of this project idea…

Curved Bamboo slats, bamboo poles, wire, cable ties, and a plywood floor panel all form the skeletal structure of a series of ‘Garden Cloud’ modules that will join together to form a cumulus cloud, or individually act as little spaces for retreat.

One thing I love about this making process is how quiet it is- as an architect most of my experiences on a project site during construction are noisy/ dusty but this type of making is very simple, quiet and- to be honest a little bit cathartic! The kids love it- we start and finish doing little bits at a time whenever we have the chance or inclination; and then sometimes I will do some more in the quiet of an evening. With no power-tools used for the bulk of the fabrication its only your hands and a few pliers that pull all this together… quietly.
